History and customs of United Kingdom

London was founded by the Romans as Londinium almost 2,000 years ago. An empire covering about a quarter of the planet was once ruled from there.

The United Kingdom brings together England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century and remains a parliamentary monarchy, with an enormous role in world language and culture.

A 2016 referendum chose to leave the EU, and Brexit was completed in 2020. Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022 after 70 years on the throne and was succeeded by her son, Charles III.

Queuing in order is almost sacred and traffic drives on the left. In pubs you order at the bar, and the weather is the favourite topic of conversation.
